Centre of Light: Illuminating the Essence of Dining

The inspiration behind the Centre of Light lamp was the triangle, symbolizing ascension, spirituality, and trust. The dynamic form of the lamp points to the center, the culmination of a meal. In today's fast-paced world, meals are often treated pragmatically, without paying attention to the product, the space, or the company. The spiritual character of dining has been somewhat lost. This project seeks to redirect our attention to the essence of our lives and encourage us to slow down and savor the moment.

The Centre of Light project is all about creating a unique atmosphere that surrounds the act of eating. Light, as an ordering element, adds character and dimension, emphasizing the uniqueness of each meal. It becomes the creator of the space in which we reside, infusing it with an empirical and sensual meaning. The lamp, made of 3mm thick plywood and copper, houses an e27 bulb and features a braided orange cable. Its dimensions are 700mm in height and 400mm x 400mm in width.

By focusing the light on the food, the Centre of Light lamp becomes the heart of the kitchen, the center around which we gather to consume a meal. The warm color of the light, falling into various tones of orange, stimulates the appetite and creates a pleasant atmosphere. It invites us to celebrate the meal and take a moment to appreciate the space, the people, and the objects that come together to create the present.

The Centre of Light project was realized between January and July 2018 in Szczecin, Poland. It represents a thoughtful exploration of the relationship between light, food, and the dining experience. By infusing meals with a touch of mystique and spirituality, this lamp encourages us to slow down, appreciate the present, and create a more meaningful connection with our food and surroundings.

The Centre of Light lamp, designed by A.Legawiec & O.Kiedrowicz-Świtalska, was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category in 2019. This prestigious accolade recognizes designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
